Who We Are
Saffa Resource Assistance was born from personal experience, professional purpose, and a desire to help others successfully navigate a new beginning. Our founder is a South African-born and raised woman who has called the United States home since 2000. Since beginning her career in the nonprofit sector in 2005, she has served in roles ranging from frontline support staff to Executive Director, giving her firsthand experience in connecting people with resources, strengthening nonprofit organizations, building community partnerships, and helping individuals overcome barriers to greater independence and opportunity. After seeing and hearing about some of the challenges South African refugees face when arriving in the United States—from understanding unfamiliar systems and finding essential resources to establishing community connections and adjusting to a new way of life—she recognized an opportunity to use her experience and South African roots to help make that transition a little easier.
That vision became Saffa Resource Assistance. Our purpose is to help South African refugees access practical resources, trusted guidance, and community connections as they establish themselves in the United States and become active, contributing members of the communities that have welcomed them. We believe successful resettlement is about more than meeting immediate needs; it is about building relationships, fostering belonging, encouraging self-sufficiency, and creating pathways to long-term stability and success. Saffa Resource Assistance will work to strengthen connections within the South African refugee community while also building collaborative relationships with local nonprofits, businesses, faith communities, service providers, volunteers, and neighbors in the places where newcomers live and work. While our journey begins with supporting South Africans rebuilding their lives in the United States, our broader vision remains rooted in creating opportunity, dignity, and hope for South Africans in need—wherever they may be.

At Saffa Resource Assistance, our goal is to help South African refugees navigate that transition with greater confidence, connection, and support. We provide practical assistance, connect individuals and families with trusted community resources, and help address barriers that may stand between a new arrival and long-term stability.
Our services are designed to complement—not replace—the work of resettlement agencies, government programs, and other community organizations. We focus on helping individuals understand what resources are available, make meaningful community connections, prepare for employment, and take the next steps toward independence and belonging.

Meaningful employment is an important part of establishing independence and building a new life. We help refugees prepare to enter the U.S. workforce and confidently present their skills, education, and experience to prospective employers.
Community Resource Navigation
Arriving in a new community often means learning how to navigate unfamiliar systems while trying to meet the immediate needs of a family. Saffa Resource Assistance helps connect refugees with resources available in the communities where they live.
New Beginning Assistance
Some needs cannot wait. Through the generosity of donors and community partners, Saffa Resource Assistance intends to provide limited financial or material assistance to eligible individuals and families experiencing immediate needs as they establish themselves in the United States.
